The city government of Balanga is poised to implement a City Ordinance which prohibits smoking, vaping and selling of cigarettes.
The anti-tobacco ordinance entitled: “The New Comprehensive Tobacco and Nicotine Regulation for the Protection of Health and Welfare Ordinance of Balanga City, Bataan” was passed by the City Council on June 24, 2019 was met with a sprinkle of criticisms from tobacco business sector.
City Ordinance No. 17 series of 2019 bans smoking and vaping in public places under pain of penalty of First offense, P1,000; second offense, P3,000; and third and subsequent offenses, P5,000.
Business owners who sell or advertise tobacco products will also be fined: first offense, P5,000 plus one day closure of store; second, P5,000 plus one month closure of business; and third and subsequent offenses, P5 000 plus one year closure of business.
Violators of this ordinance shall be informed of their violations and penalty by means of citation ticket system to be issued by the City Treasurer’s Office or City Licensing Franchise and Permit Office to duly authorized enforcers.
